Our Story

Welcome to Barefoot Bees!

We are a small, family run business created out of love for the natural world.

Quite some time ago, it was discovered that the relationship between a certain insect and certain plants had a very tasty outcome. This still holds true today and we have been serving up this treat raw and unfiltered to our East Cobb neighbors since 2019 .

Barefoot Bees unofficially began in 2016 when I was out at lunch one day and noticed a beehive in a garden nearby. This led to a lot of reading, googling, YouTube videos and eventually the purchase of my very first nuc. Like many starting out, my main goal was just to keep the bees alive and keep them from wanting to leave. It didn’t take very long for me to realize that keeping bees was a lot harder than originally thought and the first year didn’t end too well - the bees decided they were better off on their own after a couple months and absconded (left to find a new hive somewhere else).

Lessons learned! Painful, yes. Deterred, no. The following year I tried again and have been successfully keeping bees since.

With the help of both kids and wife, Katrina, the number of hives have been increasing over the years to what is now called Barefoot Bees. Our love for and curiosity with nature powers our imagination and keeps us going.
